What Moving Companies Can and Can't Transport

At Advanced Moving, we understand that moving can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to figuring out what can and can't be transported. As a professional and experienced moving company in Sioux Falls, we are here to help you navigate this process.

It's important to note that there are certain items that moving companies are not allowed to transport due to safety and legal reasons. These items include hazardous materials such as explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidizers, poisons, corrosives, and radioactive materials. Other items that may not be allowed to be transported include perishable goods, plants, and pets.

At Advanced Moving, we prioritize your safety and the safety of your belongings. That's why we make sure to inform our clients of what can and can't be transported before starting the moving process. Our professional and licensed movers are equipped to handle all your residential and
commercial relocation needs, ensuring that your belongings are transported safely and efficiently. Contact us today for a free estimate tailored to your specific needs.

Items We Can Move

At Advanced Moving, we pride ourselves on being able to transport a wide variety of items for our clients. Here are some of the items we can move for you:

Furniture

We can transport all types of furniture, including dressers, couches, tables, and chairs. Our staff will wrap all furniture in a moving pad to ensure it is protected during the move. We also have the tools necessary to disassemble and reassemble your furniture if needed.

Heavy Items

Our 26-foot straight trucks are equipped with pads, dollies, and straps to transport heavy items such as pool tables, pianos, gun safes, and shop equipment. Our staff will take extra care to ensure that these items are properly secured and protected during the move.

Awkward Items

We understand that some items can be difficult to transport due to their size or shape. However, our experienced movers are trained to handle awkward items such as exercise equipment, electronics, pianos, and gun safes. We will take the necessary precautions to ensure that these items are transported safely and securely.

Fragile Items

We know that delicate and breakable items require extra care during transport. That's why we take special care when transporting fragile items such as fine china, antiques, and artwork. We will wrap these items in packing paper and mark them as fragile to ensure that they are handled with care.

Items We Can't Move

At Advanced Moving, we take our responsibility to transport your belongings seriously. However, there are certain items that we cannot move due to safety reasons. It is important that you understand what these items are so that you can make the necessary arrangements to transport them yourself or dispose of them appropriately.

Pets

Keep your pets safely confined on move-out day, then keep them with you at all times during transport. Even after your move, it’s best to reintroduce them to your new place slowly and carefully. Here are some tips for moving with a cat.

Vehicles

We don’t move vehicles, so you’ll have to plan on driving them yourself.

Hazardous Materials

We cannot transport hazardous materials such as paints, pesticides, acids, gasoline, propane tanks, bleach, fertilizer, solvents, pool chemicals, ammonia, car batteries, poisons, scuba tanks, aerosol cans, weed killers, kerosene, lamp oil, and fire extinguishers. These materials are considered hazardous and pose a risk to our movers and your other belongings. Our customers typically dispose of them properly or make other arrangements to transport them personally.

Firearms and Ammunition

Advanced Moving typically doesn’t transport firearms and ammunition. It is important to make arrangements for the safe transportation of these items prior to your move. We recommend contacting a licensed firearms dealer or the local police department to learn more about the legal requirements for transporting firearms and ammunition.

Explosives

We cannot transport any type of explosive material. This includes fireworks, ammunition, and other explosive devices. These items are highly dangerous and can cause serious harm to our movers and your other belongings. If you have any of these items, you will need to dispose of them properly or make other arrangements to transport them.

Combustibles

We cannot transport any combustible materials such as charcoal, matches, and paint thinners. These items are highly flammable and pose a risk to our movers and your other belongings. If you have any of these items, you will need to dispose of them properly or make other arrangements to transport them.

It is important to note that this is not an exhaustive list of items that we cannot transport. If you have any questions about whether an item can be transported, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

Special Considerations

Other items could go either way, depending on your specific circumstances. Here are the most common items and what we can do with them.

Perishables and Plants

Perishable items such as frozen food, perishable food items, and plants often require special considerations when moving. If the move is a short distance, we can sometimes load refrigerators, freezers or coolers last and unload them first in an attempt to prevent any spoilage. However, there are always factors outside of our control, so we cannot guarantee anything. Similarly with plants, we can move them but there is often a good chance the plant will die due to exposure to extreme cold or hot weather.

Motorized Equipment and Tools

Moving companies cannot transport motorized equipment and tools that contain fuel, such as lawnmowers and chainsaws. It is important to properly drain the fuel from these items prior to your move. We also recommend disassembling any large equipment or tools to make them easier to transport.

Personal and Valuable Items

It’s always best to keep your most personal and valuable items with you during your move, including jewelry, cash, and important documents. However, Advanced Moving does respect your privacy and will securely move your confidential records, employee records, and financial records if needed.

It is important to keep these special considerations in mind when planning your move. If you have any questions or concerns about the items that can and cannot be transported by moving companies, feel free to contact us at Advanced Moving. We are here to help make your move as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Packing Tips for Moving Day

When it comes to packing for moving day, it can be overwhelming. However, with a bit of planning, you can make it stress-free. Here are some tips from us to help you with your packing:

  • Start early: Packing can take longer than you expect, so start as soon as possible. This will give you enough time to sort through your belongings and decide what to keep and what to get rid of. Here’s a checklist to give you a better idea.

  • Label your boxes: Make sure to label your boxes with the contents and the room they belong in. This will make it easier for our team to load and unload the boxes and for you to unpack at your new home.

  • Pack fragile items carefully: Fragile items such as lamps, lampshades, and delicate glassware should be packed with extra care. We recommend wrapping them in bubble wrap or packing paper and labeling the boxes as "Fragile" to ensure they are handled with care.

  • Clean your belongings before packing: Cleaning your belongings before packing them will make it easier to unpack and settle into your new home. Be sure to clean items such as kitchen appliances, clothing, and bedding before packing them.

  • Pack common items together: Pack common items such as cleaning supplies and garage tools together in a single box to make it easier to find them when you need them.

  • Disassemble furniture: If you want to save money, consider disassembling your furniture beforehand. If not, our team has the proper tools to take your beds, decks, dining tables, etc. apart and reassemble them at your new home.

  • Leave clothes in dressers: On the day of your move, our staff will decide if the dresser can be moved with the drawers in place or if they need to be moved separately. If you have any fragile items in the drawers, you need to pack them to ensure they don't break.

By following these tips, you can ensure that your belongings are packed safely and securely for your move.
